PUPPY MILL BREEDING DOGS

Puppy mills are the source of ALL pet store dogs!

Millers are now advertising online, posing as breeders!  NEVER EVER EVER order a dog online. You might get a sick or deformed dog!

Puppy mills, where pet store puppies are bred, are concentration camps for dogs.  They live crammed in wire cages with only inches for each dog.  The cages are always outside, exposed to freezing winds and boiling heat with many dying from the extreme temperatures. One little dog gave birth during a horrible snow storm and lay on her puppies, trying to keep them from freezing to death, inadvertently smothering them.  The atrocities they suffer are beyond imagination.  They never ever leave the cage, never know human contact, never walk let alone run or play, are never bathed or groomed, are barely fed and often the more assertive dog gets all the food and the weaker ones eat that dog's poop.  As a result, they are filthy and matted with feces and urine, half starved, reeking beyond anything you've ever smelled, and totally terrified.
They know pain and suffering like we can only imagine. Some come with various problems, all of which we fix if we are lucky enough to get the dog. Sometimes we go and the dog is frozen to death.  Of the ones we are able to rescue, some have dental abscesses and other infected wounds oozing pus. Some have broken bones, huge mammary tumors, or chains around their necks imbedded into the flesh as the chain was put on when they were puppies and never enlarged. Most have ear infections with years of debris in their ears, while others might have huge swollen testicles from their being frozen on the metal.  Some have wounds indicative of abuse, like being kicked in the ey.  Many have infected cuts between their splayed toes from trying to balance on the wires, slipping and getting cut. Imagine any horrible excruciating pain and these dogs have endured it without any relief......ever!  The final insult is that when they can no longer produce puppies because they are just worn out at maybe age 3 or 4, they are killed!  Here is where they wind up, dead and in a pile ---------->
That's where rescue comes in. Sometimes we can get the dogs they are going to kill by shooting, starving, drowning or burning, and we save them. What wonderful dogs they turn out to be!  When we get them they are terrified, vomiting and shaking. Once they understand that we won't hurt them even more, they are grateful beyond their ability to show.  Once they have their painful abscesses and tumors removed, horrible ear and other infections cured, have food in their bellies and a soft bed (soft? what's soft??), their terror subsides and gratitude abounds. Here is a video of one of our most frightened mill rescues, Ginny. Yes, she IS the one blitzing around the room, happy, wagging her tail and giving kisses, and in just a few months!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzCUOfDxIU4  Contrary to rumor, we have found that they housebreak really fast (a week or two) when they have another dog in the house to follow.  Many learn from the other dog to play, but some do not. ALL give 1000% of their love to their adopter, their savior.  Mill breeding dogs are the BEST, most devoted, dedicated and loving pets you will ever have! SOS DOGS has been fortunate enough to be able to help some of these dogs. The first pictures show generally how they look when we get them (but you can't SMELL the dpg or feel the dirt and mats in the picture and that's the worst part!), and then the beautiful dogs they become. Following are a pictures of some of our wonderful mill rescues who have all gone to loving homes and are adored!  There's not enough room for them all, but they are all in the Gallery. There is NOTHING more gratifying than adopting a former mill breeding dog. You will never ever have a better behaved or more devoted dog.  Why don't you see what mill dogs we have for adoption now?

Read some of these testimonials from our mill breeding dog adopters:

Watching a mill dog experience his new world with happy and hopeful eyes has been so rewarding. I'm loving the experience and recommend adopting from SOS dogs to anyone. Listen to SOS and training is easy. I followed the guidance and within the two weeks he was fully trained

- Ellen Scherer, PA, mother of Benji

I could write a book about how much love and joy Rafa has brought to us.  He stepped right into our hearts from day one and it was a very easy.   He trained from the first day without issue following the other two dogs and has adjusted to having other dogs and people around remarkably well.  I will never get another dog any other way other than adopting.

- Valerie Villa

My experience adopting  my puppy mill baby has been nothing less than a blessing. I thank God everyday for my Sammy. He was totally housebroken in 2 weeks.  Sammy has taught me unconditional love. He is timid, and has fears. However, he talks to me with his eyes. I have never felt so much love and gratitude that I feel from him. Sammy is the best thing that ever happened to our family. There is nothing as rewarding as giving these innocent little victims a safe and loving home.

- Cheryl Zbik, Ventnor, N.J. Proud Mommy of Sammy

We love having Rusty feel very fortunate to have him.  He is a wonderful addition to our family, gets along well with other dogs, humans, and has learned how to be a good pet!

- RLC

I adopted Lily, a 4 1/2 year old [mill breeding] yorkie from SOS DOGS.  I just love her.  She is so gentle, sweet and very bright.  She gets along very well with my other yorkie, Samantha.  They are best friends forever!  I feel so lucky to have her in the family.

- Joyce Ferren, Turnersville, NJ, mother of Lily

I adopted Maggie, a maltese, and she is the best dog in the world.  She was easy to train. She is so smart and she knows all of my hand signals. She plays and speaks for her treats. I love her so much. I will always adopt a puppy mill dog. It is so rewarding to see how happy she is today compared to when I first got Maggie. They make the best dogs  because of the life change. It breaks my heart to think of the life she had before. It’s the best feeling in the world. She is my life. We love you Maggie.   Thank you SOS!

-Dorothy LaPollo

SOS Dogs made adopting a dog very easy.  Their recommendations on the type of home would be best for a particular dog was right on.  The dog that I adopted was very sweet and needed to be adopted by someone who had another dog so it could adapt quicker to a home environment.  Our little Bonnie bonded well to us with our love and the companionship of another dog in the home.

-Carol Ecker, Turnersville, NJ

Watching our SOS mill dog blossom into a happy little girl has been wonderful and rewarding.  Maddie's transformation and integration into our pet family happened quickly with the help of our other two dogs, and all three are now closely bonded buddies.  Our experience went so smoothly that we are considering another SOS adoption in the near future.

-Elaine & Carl Fogler  Ventnor, New Jersey

We adopted Katie exactly one year ago and she is the sweetest little girl.  It has been great fun watching her change day by day from being fearful of everything (including eating) to become an active part of our family.  I believe a mill dog should only be adopted to a family that has another dog because our Katie has benefited most from her doggy brothers Digger and Rascal.  Because of their confidence and guidance, Katie has blossomed by keeping up and learning from them.  She has learned to play with toys, chase the squirrels in the yard, take long walks meeting lots of people, children and neighborhood pets. Adopting a mill dog has been a very positive experience for our family and Katie shows us every day by her kisses and cuddles that she is very thankful

-Jimmy, Susan, Casey, Tommy and Chris Boyle  Cranbury, NJ

In three short months, little Bella has transformed herself.  She is learning to trust us and has a lovely, sweet temperament.  With every passing day, she just gets better and better, and now we can't imagine life without her!

-O.Garau/V.Lane, Bridgehampton, NY

Petey took a while to house train but he is the most loving and loyal friend O could ever ask for, well worth the work!

-Sharon, Petey's mommy

My husband and I adopted a beautiful Bichon from SOS DOGS  which was from a puppy mill.  Her name is Happy cause she really is.  We got her in early April and by June she knew the house rules.  I never had a dog with so much personality.  We were so pleased with her that we adopted another mill bichon through SOS DOGS named  Tricksie and she learned the house rules from Happy.  How easy was that?  SOS DOGS is a wonderful organization that helps find homes for these wonderful dogs. We couldn't be happier…

-Geri & Bob Dean,  Sewell,N.J.

Adopting a mill dog from SOS DOGS has been a rewarding experience. To see her evolve from a timid, frightened creature into a funny, loving, playful member of "the pack" has been very emotional. It makes me cry to think this wonderful little dog was kept in a filthy cage

-Darlene Kerchner, York PA, mother of Jenny

I thought, ‘Oh my what have I gotten into?’   I can tell you Gertie has become the love of my life. She is completely trained and she walks on her leash and looks at me with LOVE.   She is so good and loving not the frightened little dog I took in.

-C. Snoke

What a great decision our family made in adopting a mill dog from SOS DOGS!  We all are so lucky!! Though it took a little extra time to train her, she is the most loving, affectionate and loyal friend in our family.  We were concerned about her getting along with our other dog, but as I hoped, they have become best friends.  Adopting her was the best decision we made for our family, and most importantly, for Lexus, who is now living in a safe, loving home..

-Natalie, Steve & Sara Michael....and Bentley

We were very hesitant to adopt a mill dog but after we spoke to friends who knew better and after meeting him we knew we had to have him. He is so much a part of our family now and my daughters love him so much.  As of today, we have trained Augie to ring the bell when he needs to go potty outside!!!! (Can't say the same as his brother Sam!)  All these dogs need is a second chance...just go for it - trust us.  With a little patience it will work out better than you could have imagined!

-The adopted family of Augie
