Volunteer To Help SOS DOGS
SOS DOGS is a non-profit, ALL VOLUNTEER (including the full time
Director), foster based rescue. Therefore, SOS DOGS and the small dogs it
saves depend on the kindness and caring of small dog lovers to volunteer
their time, funds and services. SOS DOGS maintains a database of
volunteers across several mid-Atlantic states and calls on them via email as
need arises in their state.
What a volunteer can do depends on the volunteer's location. If you live
a distance from the main rescue and the rescue vet (southern NJ), you can transport or do
home checks on prospective adopters in your area, which are both very important parts of rescue
process. Further, volunteers can check local shelters for any of our breeds
who may be in danger of euthanasia, and we constantly need people to post
our flyers in vet offices and pet stores, and keep reposting when they get
torn down. Then, of course, there's always donations of supplies and funds.
Those who live in southern NJ can also foster. Living in or close to
southern NJ is
important so that we can get the dog to our rescue vets in Voorhees and
Turnersville, NJ when
required. There are many ways one can volunteer to help SOS DOGS, depending
on your location and the time and resources you have to offer. If you
are interested in volunteering to help SOS Dogs, please print our
volunteer
questionnaire form, fill it in and mail it. For

Volunteers
who want to consider fostering sometimes aren't sure what it involves. In most instances, we do all we can to keep a dog in
his/her current home until a new home can be found so that there is only one
home transfer, thereby minimizing the amount of readjustment the dog must
make and further minimizing any trauma. However, when the current owner just
cannot keep the dog for the few weeks that it may take to find the right
home and approve it, or if a dog comes from a shelter orelsewhere, we place the dog into
one of our approved foster homes.
Fostering involves a more intensive devotion to rescue dogs. You will
have a dog who will live in your home and be part of your family. You will have to feed, bathe, perhaps housebreak . You will learn
the dog's mannerisms, temperament test the dog, assess his personality and
needs, and you will be an integral part of the decision regarding which type
of "forever home" would be best for this dog. It's a more rewarding, but
certainly more time consuming means of volunteering, and it is best done by
someone who is home most of the time, for obvious reasons. If you are
interested in volunteering to help SOS Dogs, please print our
volunteer
questionnaire form, fill it in and mail it.
Transporting involves picking a dog up and taking it some distance,
perhaps a few hours of driving. It may be part of a relay process among
several volunteers, or you may transport the whole distance. This is usually
done on weekends and can be done by someone who works full time. If
you are interested in volunteering to help SOS Dogs, please print our
volunteer
questionnaire form, fill it in and mail it.
Checking prospective homes involves following a Home Check Form that we
send you. It lists specific things to look for, certain questions to ask,
and requests that you fill in the answers. It also asks you to personally
make the crucial judgment if you feel these prospective adopters can
properly care for one of our little dogs and you feel the home will be safe,
loving and permanent. This determination is yours when you do a home check,
and you are certainly making a momentous decision in the future life of a
little doggie. If you are interested in volunteering to help SOS Dogs,

questionnaire form, fill it in and mail it.
Obviously donations, in the form of monetary donations or goods, always
help. Financial support is crucial to be able to pay our vet bills. We ALWAYS need the following:
- postage stamps and other office supplies
- Small dog toys
- Greenies
and chewies and treats of all kinds
- shampoo and grooming supplies, including Oster A4 blades
